Jake and the Neverland Pirates Cake February 2014

After doing the My Little Pony cake, I started feeling OK about my candy clay molding abilities (I mean, I know I'm not exactly a brilliant sculptor, but those ponies turned out much better than I would have expected). So I decided to try sculpting human characters for my most recent cake. Again, not brilliant, but they could have been much worse. I think Captain Hook and the Crocodile are my favorites. After spending a couple of days making my figures, I realized they were going to be huge in proportion to the rest of the cake. But there was really nothing I could do about it at that point, so I stuck them on there anyway. And as you can probably tell, I really struggled with the frosting and had crumbs all over in it. My skills with buttercream are still very limited. The other issue I ran into was that the cake was very precarious, and I felt bad for the poor people who had to carry it home in their car for the birthday party.
