Arrested Development Cake April 2013

This is a chocolate cake covered in fondant. The 3D decorations on the cake are made of rice krispie treats covered in fondant. The pieces attached to the banana stand are made of gumpaste. I also used corn syrup mixed with gel food coloring to decorate the banana stand, the blue garbage can, and the stair car. I feel like I'm getting a lot better at covering difficult shapes in fondant. I think the stair car could have turned out better, but considering all of the bumps and curves on that shape, I thought it wasn't half bad. I was not particularly pleased with the corn syrup paint this time. It tends to soak into the fondant so it's hard to make it look even and it overall looks quite shiny, sticky, and smeary. I think I'd like to look into finding some edible markers to do this kind of detail work in the future. The lettering is made of fondant and was intended to mimic the style of the show, which uses lower case letters mixed in with capital letters for the show title.
