Flower Basket Cake January 2013
This is an applesauce cake covered in fondant. I used a quilt pattern on the lower tier, accented with sugar beads. Next time I will be more careful about measuring, since I wasn't really thrilled with the result of this one. The upper tier uses a basket weave piping technique that could also use some work. However, I thought the gumpaste flowers turned out really awesome for the most part. I wanted to take my new Wilton flower cutter set for a spin, so I tried lots of different kinds of flowers on this one. I had a couple petals break, since I keep getting impatient with my gumpaste shapes/figures and not giving them enough time to dry. On the whole, though, I think the flowers turned out pretty good.
